Anubis, also known as the Guardian of the Scales, was the Egyptian god of Death. Depicted in the Egyptian Book of the Dead, upon passage to the Necropolis after death, ones heart was weighed against Ma'at or ones truth. Those who passed were guided to the Egyptian Underworld, Duat. Those who failed, were devoured by the Goddess Ammit. Often depicted as evil, Anubis is not evil by nature. He merely judges.
